Irexec is needed if you want to assign a remote button to a script like turning your system on or off. When I was using Fedora, I could just add the irexec start command to rc.local and irexec would start. When I tried this with Mythbuntu, I ran into problems with irexec crashing. Here's a tutorial on how to start irexec by using the files that come with Mythbuntu.
